THE RESULTS ARE IN! Thank you for your support of the WISD School Bond Election. Please visit this website frequently as we move through the design and construction phases. WISD Board of Trustees Calls In November 2009, the District’s architectural firm conducted a detailed assessment of Waxahachie High School, the Ninth Grade Academy, Lumpkins Stadium and other District athletic facilities. The firm studied the these facilities in terms of building code compliance, handicap accessibility and general building conditions and worked with the District to create a long-term Master Plan for these facilities. During this time, the District also solicited lists from each existing campus of requested renovation projects. In reviewing the campus lists, the facility assessment and the Master Plan, the Board called a 2-proposition bond election totaling $28,120,000 to be voted on May 8, 2010. The first proposition, totaling $22,175,000, proposes renovations to the softball field at the high school, renovations to Richards Park, the District’s baseball complex and renovations and expansions to Lumpkins Stadium. The proposed projects at Lumpkins Stadium will address safety and handicap accessibility, will increase the seating capacity from 7,500 to 10,000 seats, and will provide updates to the facility in order to extend its lifecycle by an estimated 50+ years. The second proposition, totaling $5,945,000, proposes campus renovations to 11 of the District’s 13 school facilities. General items in the package include restroom remodeling for handicap accessibility, interior and exterior painting, door and hardware replacement, flooring replacement and technology and security upgrades. The District anticipates calling a future bond election in 2013 for the large-scale renovation and expansion projects laid out in the Master Plan for Waxahachie High School and the Ninth Grade Academy. The District also plans to work with a demographer to study growth in the District as it begins planning for a future bond. This bond election, if both propositions are approved by voters, will increase taxes by approximately $7.12 per month for the average homeowner in Waxahachie. Please visit the Tax Impact page for more detailed information. Detailed project information, estimated costs, voting times and locations and tax impact information have been included on this website. There is also a place for patrons to submit their bond-related question to the District. Please check back frequently for updates. |
